Back from the Blizzard and Into the Fire

Construction Associates Inc. is pleased to announce Fire Stop Applications (FSA) as the newest division of our company.  FSA provides complete fire stop solutions for commercial, industrial and healthcare industries. Because FSA understands which building components and conditions need to be protected, installations are done efficiently and correctly the first time. Your building can be up to code in the fraction of the time it would take in-house maintenance staff or a general contractor. FSA will save money and time and avoid potential building code violations.

In short, proper fire stopping must be part of the job when installing new telephone, data lines, cable lines, HVAC or plumbing systems or repairing systems that penetrate walls and ceilings so as to maintain the integrity of the original fire-resistant construction. In addition, our professional FSA team is well-versed in new construction passive fire protection and can identify and install the applications needed where two assemblies meet to form an expansive joint such as at the top of a wall, curtain wall or floor-to-floor joints.

Preventing the potential loss of life and containing fires starts with correctly installed fire stop products and applications. Insist on a qualified and certified installer to do your fire stopping. Call 203-826-9510 and speak to an FSA representative today for an initial consultation.

Sincerely,

The Center for Advanced Pediatrics
Urgent Care without the Emergency Room Wait

Every community needs reliable convenient medical care, especially for children.  The Center for Pediatrics P.C. located in Ridgefield, Connecticut offers just that. Construction Associates, Inc. (CAI), the design-build partner, is proud to have designed and constructed this unique 7,500 square foot space which provides a safe, cheerful facility offering the most comprehensive pediatric medical services available today.

Beyond the welcoming check-in room that displays a 200 gallon salt water fish tank, there are separate well and sick patient waiting areas.  Down the halls of the circular interior space are comprehensive medical care sections for infants, children and young adults in the URGI treatment room, ten wet exam rooms, two infant care rooms and psychiatric offices. Additional space includes a large on-site laboratory, supporting doctors' offices, and a staff break room and conference area.

In addition to creating a welcoming, friendly facility, careful planning went into designing access points and secure areas to protect the patients who are generally less than three feet tall. Simple things that do not generally pose a hazard in an adult environment can become dangers for small children, such as sharp edges on drywall corners or door strikes installed at a child's head level.

The Center for Advanced Pediatrics, P.C. is located at 901 Ethan Allen Highway, Ridgefield, CT 06877. It serves to provide rapid diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of injuries and illnesses that cannot wait until your pediatrician's next routine business day and often eliminates the need for a trip to the emergency room. This specialized facility has proven to be a tremendous benefit to the community.

Construction Quiz

Firestop training requires a final exam with included the question below. The answer to this question was most notable because many people in commercial construction, including project and facilities managers alike are surprised by the speed at which smoke can travel through such a small space. The answer to this question clearly explains the need for professional firestop services to save lives and property.

Question:

How long will it take a 20ft x 20ft x 20ft room to fill with smoke through a pencil sized hole.

Answer: E-mail your answer to info@construction-associates.com

We look forward to hearing from you!

Cave-in accidents are 15 times more likely to end in death than other construction site accidents. To reduce the chance of accidents, improve worker safety, reduce liability and ensure compliance with all OSHA standards, a comprehensive plan must be established and critical attention must be paid to the following areas before the first shovel is dug into the soil.

  • Utilities. Make sure the location of all utilities is clearly mapped out.
  • Surface encumbrances. Check out anything that can fall into trenches, like traffic signs, sidewalks, even trees. (Read More)
